All camps will consist of 1 or 2 Sleeping Tents which have lots of room.

The sleeping tent is 14 feet or 3 meters wide and 16 feet or 3 ½ meters long, 5 ½ feet or 1.7 meters high wall, and 10 ½ feet or 3.3 meters to the top of the tent. The tents are built with a wooden floor constructed for cold weather hunting and are heated by a wood-burning stove. Beds are set up with a 4 inch or 10 cm thick foam mattress and a very warm sleeping bag.

There is an outdoor toilet, but no shower the client will have to take a sponge bath. And all camps have a gravity drain shower bag that we fill with hot water. We will supply a washcloth, and towel for each client.

With having the hunting camp right in the hunting area if the client needed to warm up during the day we just head for camp.

The temperature at with time of year is +10 to – 10 Celsius at night and +15 to -5 Celsius darn the day time. However, the Bull Moose have very good hearing so when the PH and client are standing calling to in a Bull Moose you may stand still for hours so warm footwear, clothing, coat, hat, and gloves real payoff. But try to get hunt gear that does not make a lot of noise when you move. The best is when you layer your clothing so you can adjust for the temperature of the day.

There will be a boat and motor for on the lake and ATV for on land for transportations at the hunting camps.

DEPARTURE

After the hunt, you will be transported back to Fort McMurray to a hotel for the night and then you will be transported by the hotel or your own taxi to the airport in Fort McMurray for you to board the plane in time to return home.

Moose hunting

moose-518783_1920.jpg

your adventure north:

The clients will be picked up at the airport in Fort McMurray. And brought to a hotel that we will book for the client. The next morning we start our journey north, our staff will pick the clients from the hotel and start heading to hunting camp. And if the clients have to buy anything in Fort McMurray they can get it at this time.

Legend Lake Camp
It takes 2 1/2 hours to drive Northwest of Fort McMurray by truck. Then 3 1/2 hours by ATV to get to camp. When the client gets to camp there are 3 tents 2 for sleeping in and a cook tent.

There are 2 boats at this camp. The boats are used to hunt out of by traveling the shoreline to spot Bull Moose along the shoreline and by crossing the lake to spots where the PH and the client can go onshore and call some of these spots are 500 meters to 1.5 kilometers off the shore of the lake. There are also ATV’s to use to hunt areas that are farther away.

On the way to this camp, there are 3 spike camps. When we go past these spike camps one client and a PH will stay at the spike camp and as we go farther North to Legend Lake Camp. As we go farther North and pass the next 2 spike camps and we do the same drop-off one client and a PH at each camp.

The spike camps are set up in the same 1 tent, 2 beds, wood-burning stove, wooden floor, cook center and a table for eating all these spike camps have lakes close by and the hunting is done by walking from spike camp. Or using the ATV’s to hunt areas farther away.

The client would stay the first 4 days at the spike camp. Then move to the next spike camp for 3 days. Then move to the next spike camp for the last 3 days. So the Bull Moose I the area do not get use to the sound of the PH calling as we all sound a little different. We do this for the best success for Trophy Bull Moose.

The Hunt

Once we arrive at the camp clients are assigned to their tents where you will be shown how to use the lights, wood-burning stove, and settle in. Once the gear is put away we will test all of the weapons to be used as you will be hunting the first night. If you are renting, you will also be shown how to use the weapons and test the weapons properly.

Remember safety is our first concern, anyone not showing respect to the weapons animals’ nature or our staff will be sent back to Fort McMurray at their own expense.

The morning hunt starts at 5: 30 am with a light briefest and coffee or tea. Then the Professional Hunter (PH) and clients will go by boat and motor or by ATV. If there is a Moose sign close to camp the hunt will be by walking. The PH will pick spots to call from. That is the PH will make the sounds of a cow moose looking for the Bull Moose to mate with. The clients and the PH will lesion for the sounds they make when the Bull Moose calls back. The Bull Moose can take hours to come all the way in to shooting range.

If the Bull does not come all the way in we will go back to camp at about 10 to 11 am for a few hours till about 4 pm and go back to the same spot to get the bull Moose to come in. Back to camp at dark about 7 pm. To a home-cooked meal that the PH will prepare. Then off to sleep. This will be repeated each day until the clients have shot their Bull Moose.

After the morning hunt, the ph will cook a full breakfast. Then the Client can go have a much-needed rest. Or go fishing or if the client has a Black Bear license the clients can go to the Bear Baits in the hunting area.

The Black Bear baits 2 drums one with meat scraps and the other is my special mix of dry food. The client will seat in a tree stand or some people call it a high seat. It is made of metal and will seat 2 people And is 18 feet or 3 ½ meters of the ground. This is the best way to hunt for big Black Bears. The client can see many this way and can choose the Black Bear they want to shot.

When the Moose is shot the PH will skin the trophy Moose, then transport the Trophy, skin, and all the meat back to camp.

When the 10-day hunt is over you will be transported back to Fort McMurray and to a hotel, for you to gather yourself and probably shower before your self-booked flights home.

Black Bear Hunting

beauchamp0000049A.jpg

DESCRIPTION

Come be a Indian with us for a week at the Teepee Village

BLACK BEAR hunting is done at a remote driven area where we will travel by trucks 2 1/2 hours Northwest of Fort McMurray. We will park the trucks and then proceed by ATV to the camp which is about 1/2 hours to the camp. From camp, we will be hunting by using ATVs, to get to the areas where we hunt Black Bears over the baited areas from a high seat in the trees. When Black Bears are shot, the professional hunter will skin the bear and in camp, the hide and skull will be frozen.

From the same high seats, you will see Timber Wolfs, all hunters can shot Timber Wolfs. In the area where we are hunting, all Hunters can shoot.

YOUR ADVENTURE NORTH

When arriving in to Fort McMurray airport you (our clients) will be meet by a staff of Birch Mountain Outfitter (BMO) and brought to a hotel for a bit much needed rest for the evening before we head out.

In the morning the clients will be picked up from the hotel and if they have an shopping to do they will be brought to the stores before leaving Fort McMurray for the hunting area.

The hunting area is about 2 ½ hours from Fort McMurray. The truck will be parked at the end of the road and we will continue by ATV (All Train Vehicle) to the hunting camp this will take about ½ hour.

This Camp has 6 TEEPEES for clients to sleep in and the village has an Indigenous background.

THE HUNT

At this time of year the sun comes up at 3; 30 am and goes down at 10 pm. So the morning starts at about    6 am with a full bacon & egg breakfast. Then we go by ATV to where the trucks are parked to head to the baits away from camp up to 1 hour away. When we go into this area to hunt we take a lunch with us in witch is usual sausage’s cooked over an open fire and something to drink.

At the bait stations, there are 2 drums that has meat scraps in it and the other has my special dry food mix in it. The place where the client will sit is in a tree stand or some call it a high seat the stand is a metal ladder and double seat so the client and the professional hunter can sit and watch for Black Bears coming to feed. The stand is 18 feet or 3 ½ meters off the ground. This is a very safe way to hunt Black Bears. Hunting this way we can selectively harvest the big Black Bears. From the high seats, the clients will get to see Black Bears for photo opportunities. Also at the baits, Timber Wolfs will come to the baits.

The distance from the high seat to the drums is 20 to 50 meters. At this range, you get a really good look at the Black Bears for the size, the fur, and male or female. The Black Bears come in other colors as Blonde, Brown, and Cinnamon colors that are a special trophy.

With being able to shot 2 Black Bears the client will be able to wait for a bigger Black Bear to come to the bait.

After the client has shot a Black Bear, pictures will be taken. Then the black Bear will be transported back to camp where it will be skinned. The skin and the skull will be Frozen.

At the end of the day, the Professional hunter and the client will go back to camp have a home-cooked meal. Celebrate the day of good hunting.

When the 7-day hunt is over you will be transported back to Fort McMurry

Canva - Buffalo, Buffalo Head, Animal, Wildlife, Wild, Nature.jpg

DESCRIPTION

WOOD BISON is done in the very North of Alberta, 10 hours drive on an ice road, to the area where the camp is. The hunt is done by spotting the Wood Bison. Then doing a stalk as close as we can get to the herd of wood Bison to take the shot. When the Wood Bison is shot it will be skinned by the professional hunter and moved back to the camp. Timber Wolf hunting is done over the kill.

Your adventure north

Clients arriving for the early hunting season (November 1 – December 20) will have to fly to Fort Smith, North West Territories to the airport in Fort Smith. They will be meet by a staff of Birch Mountain Outfitter and brought to a hotel for a bit much needed rest before we head out. In the morning, clients will be picked up from the hotel and transported by truck as north as we can go.  We have to park the truck, repack any gear and proceed by ATV or Snow mobile pending on weather.

The later season, December 21 – January 15, the clients will fly in to Fort McMurray airport and will be meet by BMO staff, when the luggage and weapon are picked up the client will be transported to a hotel for the night. The next morning we start our journey north. The clients will be picked up and we head up the ice road a 11 hour trip to get to camp. Yes it a longer ride but the clients hunting this time of year save the cost of flying to Fort Smith.

The Hunt

The hunting camp set right in the center of the hunting area. From camp, you can watch one of the big natural fields where the Bison Feed. There are many of these fields walking distance from camp so we can hunt without making noise.

A bison hunt is a spot-and-stock type of hunt. When we see the Bison (Buffalo) the professional hunter and the client will stock up to the bison to get a clear shot. The field and other areas to hunt are accessible by ATV or snowmobiles, which will be used to get to these areas.

While in these areas you will have a very good chance to spot Timber Wolfs. The Timber Wolfs in this area are some of the largest Wolfs in the world they can take down the Bison ( Buffalo ).

When the Bison ( Buffalo ) is shot the Professional hunter will skin, skull, and take all the meat back to camp.

When the 10-day hunt is over you will be transported back to Fort Smith to a hotel where you will fly out of Fort Smith the next morning. If you came from Fort McMurray up the ice road then you will be heading back that same way to a hotel, for you to gather yourself and probably shower before your self-booked flights home.

location

The Wood Bison Hunting camp is located in the very north of Alberta. The area we hunt borders the Wood Buffalo National Park the largest park in the world. The bison can freely roam in and out of the park there is NO fence.
